"That freedom which is gained does not die in fear of punishment from new battles against oppressive power" (A.D.)

Who is Brenda Ysaguirre?
I have struggled and worked for over 40 years. I lost my mother at the tender age of 7 but always studied and began working from the age of 15. I graduated high school and began working immediately. I have never had anyone doubt me or suspect me of unethical behavior because I was always clear and direct.

I am a single mother with a daughter who, without assistance from a father studied, graduated, got married and now has a beautiful family.
I'm still working, helping students, supporting teachers, and always trying to implement a fair and dignified treatment.

I have worked for about 15 years now at Corozal Community College, as a teacher and then as Director for the Adult and Continuing Education Division (Evening Division). I am one of the teachers who started teaching classes at CCC ACE almost at its commencement.

I think for all those years, only once or twice have I been questioned or have needed to clarify points as to my attitude and this was conducted by the principal in service at the time.

I have founded an association that provides financial assistance, counseling and psychological support to women like me, who are single mothers or young pregnant teenagers.

Through this foundation named and registered as "Supermama, Belize" we have not only provided support to mothers of Belize but also mothers from various countries in Latin America. We have no political godfathers or economical sponsors. All is done with my input and the work of people interested in this common solidarity.

We have formed a group with students who came from CCC ACE and youths from other areas, called "I Can" or as we rightfully call ourselves, the Yo Puedo Group. This group aims to motivate the youth to strengthen their minds, with the achievements that can and must be attained, to improve their quality of life and to allow then to become responsible breadwinners in their families, as well as to contribute to the development our country needs.

I am a Laureate member of the International Society of Poets and have written over 200 poems. Many of which can be found on Poetry.com or in my blog at http://belizeantothebone.blogspot.com
Last year, in April I exhibited my poetry work for a week at the Corozal Town Hall and was happy to find that many of the school children who attended my exposition loved the poems so much that they asked for copies. Many of them still greet me from time to time when we meet around town.

I have been Founder President of the once existing Leo Club of Corozal Town (the youth group of the Lion´s Club) and President of the Rotaract Club of Corozal Town (the youth group of the Rotary Club).
